MADELEINE McCann chief suspect Christian B has bragged cops don’t have a “shred of evidence” to link him to FIVE other sex crimes.
The 44-year-old sex offender said the move was the latest sign of how investigators were “clutching at straws” for new leads to convict him.
Prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters recently revealed the convicted paedophile is being investigated over an attack on a girl, 10, as well as the murder of a teenager, 16, in Belgium.
But a source told Sun Online that Christian B “is aware of the remarks and of the new allegations in this book. But he has been bragging how the police don’t have a shred of evidence”.
The source continued: “He says the new book about him is no better than a comic and that the decision by cops to contribute to it just proves how much they are clutching at straws for new leads.
“His legal team have repeatedly asked for the evidence which police say they have and they have repeatedly refused to hand it over. This, he believes, says it all.”
According to the source, the sex offender “remains insistent he has nothing to do with Maddie’s disappearance and believes police are simply courting publicity by continually linking him to the case”.

Christian B was left riled by an interview that Hans Christian Wolters gave in a new book called My Search for Madeleine.
Wolters used the book to make a string of new allegations against the jailed German paedophile.
Last Wolters has said detectives believe "there is a good basis" to suspect the German paedophile also carried out a sex assault on a girl of 10.
The victim was grabbed by a naked man, who performed a sex act.
The incident took place was six miles from where Madeleine vanished in Praia da Luz a month later, while on holiday with parents Kate and Gerry.
Mr Wolters said officers are also investigating Christian B over the killing of 16-year-old Carola Titze in De Haan, Belgium, in 1996,
He is also facing investigation over the rape of 20-year-old Irish woman Hazel Behan in Praia de Rocha, Portugal, in 2004.
And Wolters said his department had been called in by officers probing Christian B on suspicion of the disappearance of "German Maddie" – five-year-old Inga Gehricke – in 2015,
There are also claim he carried out a sex act in front of children in a playground in Messines, 40 miles from Praia da Luz, in 2017.
Mr Wolters gave further details in My Search for Madeleine, by British journalist Jon Clarke.
Referring to the arrest in Messines, which led to Christian B being extradited to Germany, he says : "We have now picked up the investigation and he is facing several years in prison."
Asked about the case of the 10-year-old German girl on an Algarve beach in 2007, he said: "We are investigating Christian B's possible involvement in this."
On Hazel Behan, now 38, Mr Wolters said: "We only have Christian B as the suspect."
And on Carola Titze, he said: "A Belgian prosecutor had some concrete questions about Carola not long ago. They needed some information about Christian B and we gave it to them."
He declined to comment on other cases Christian B has been linked to, including that of German boy Rene Hasse, six, who vanished from a beach in the Algarve in 1996.
